Meth Free Project

MethFreeTab

Through education and real life stories, offenders see the devastating effects of drug use.

The Meth-Free project consists of both the court-ordered class and the jail program. The court-ordered class is for offenders convicted of drug related crimes. The jail class is made up of two phases. The first phase is a four week class focusing on the science, consequences and intervention of drug use. The second phase is LFM's year long Recovery for Life program. To view the 2012 Meth Free Schedule  - click HERE.

Based on a special condition of probation, offenders are ordered to attend LFM’s Meth Free project education class for the purpose of deterring illicit drug use and associated activities through education and personal experiences. MethFreeClassThe Meth Free Project:The High is a Lie is a supplementary sentence prevention court ordered class for offenders convicted of drug related crimes. Based on a special condition of probation, offenders are ordered to attend LFM's Meth Free project education class for the purpose of deterring illicit drug use and associated activities through education and personal experiences.

The class occurs monthly, typically lasting 2 hours. The class includes a 40 minute educational DVD and an impact panel speaker. Research shows the horrific consequences of meth resonate strongly with potential users in addition to those already entangled in it.
The DVD features Dr. Mary F. Holley, M.D., and an eye-opening "interview" taken of her 24 year-old brother, Jim, just 6 months before his crystal meth death.

The educational video is filled with graphic and unpleasant images of the physical effects of meth abuse, depictions of neurological damage as well as other illustrations of medical and mental health impairments. Dr. Holley places considerable focus on the medical aspects of using and the subsequent consequences. Technical information on alcohol, tobacco and the full spectrum of other illicit drugs are also included in the video.

Jim, Dr. Holley's brother gives a very real, personal testimony throughout the DVD of his meth use and his meth-induced paranoia that climaxes, resulting in suicide.

In November, LFM's impact panel speaker was Will Otero, also known as "Tank," a dear friend, recovery member who recently joined Leland's fundraising committee.

Will shared his life experiences in the drug world, gang world, and how the choices he made impacted his life, his family's life and his future. Will first heard of Leland Family Ministries from his probation officer. His involvement at first was strictly to fulfill his community service hours. But the more he came, the stronger relationships grew. Will attributes his life change to LFM and the Recovery for Life groups.

Education and personal testimony makes a substantial impact on those struggling with drugs. LFM hopes, through the sharing of this information, those that attend this class will think twice about their drug use, and contact LFM for help.
